Hi! My name is Ralph and I'm a veteran teacher of over 20 years experience. While I'm from Vancouver, I currently live and work in La Paz, Bolivia. I believe that we are unique learners and that we have individual learning needs. What drives me to teach is meeting new people and learning about other cultures. I look forward to learning things from you as we work together. I like to keep the tone real world and conversational because you are a unique learner. By keeping the tone conversational you'll be more relaxed and more inclined to ask questions. I use a Socratic teaching style which means I ask a lot of questions to find out what you already know and need to know. I will provide the information you are missing but in an interactive conversational manner rather than a lecture. Brain research shows we remember more when we do a variety of learning activities not just listening and reading. I use a variety of tech items to facilitate our lessons. I encourage you to have a gmail account so that we can share google docs and the videos you make from time to time. I will share my whatsapp contact information so you can ask questions in between our lessons. Our work together will be customized towards your needs. If you only want to work on, for example, strategies to improve your reading comprehension, that's what we'll do. As each of our lessons ends, we'll discuss the "homework" you need to do to prepare for our next session. Between lessons, I have supplemental material to share that includes videos, readings, listening exercise and, yes, even grammar exercises. I am educated with a Bachelor’s Degree, a High School Teacher’s Certificate and a TESOL Diploma. I do require that I can see your face in our lessons because it, more than your words, will show me if you understand or are confused. I look forward to helping you.
